sounds and Mantras

Mantras are more than energy based sounds. Our fore fathers have analysed and understood that sounds have a far greater and quicker impact than prayers do have to attain the feet of the lord.. There is a beleif that to attain the feet of lord two things are the easier one
1. Veda Mantras
2. Devotional music..

The best example is the utterance of the word "chi mch" when pronounced makes an individual understand that all is not well and further even though those words do not have any meaning

Further if we observed when a almirah is dragged over the floor it creates a sound and that sound irritates any one easily.. from this we can easily understand the impact of the noise

Further when a note when played with variations in the tone and pitch vibrates through the entire nervous system of our human body and different notes incites the various moods that lie in us.. This is the logic of our veda Mantras and that was the primary reason why our fore fathers had none of the slokas in written form..

Ram..i think ur taking a very biased view towards explaining why some vedic scriptures were not initially written...first of all, some civilizations in the world have existed through oral communications.. that has nothin to do with the effect of sound or whatsoever.. it is just the way civilizations have evolved, and what they place importance on.. coming to vedic scriptures, we have to understand that in a legends, myths, stories are all important part of cultures and they are communicated through 2 ways.. scripts and oral.. but both are 2 total different forms of communications, with different evolution time cycle.. if u do a time series analysis of those issues in most civilizations, u would understand that speech would have evolved much earlier and developed to a great deal rather than text..in Indo-Aryan civilization, vedas are also believed to be under the same cycle.. thus, there exists lack of scriptures on vedic till I believe like 2nd century BC (Panini, the grammatical work on Sanskrit is believed to be written only during 5th Century BC)..also note that, vedas are actually written in Sanskrit and not in the much developed language of Tamil..Tamil by 5th century BC had a well established grammar and had poems flowing in the Sangam literature then...in Summary, I believe that Vedic literature written had nothing to do with sounds, rather it has everything do with the evolution of written part of the language..
